Renowned Chef Jamie Oliver has, unsurprisingly, released an iPhone app with the intent of teaching how to cook twenty minute meals. Supplied is over an hour’s worth of video tuition, showing how the professionals cut onions, cook the perfect steak and many others. In addition are fifty newly-created recipes, thoroughly explained in easy to understand steps, each with accompanying photographs.

That listed above is enough alone to wholly  justify the app’s price of $7.99 (£4.99), but wait there’s yet more that Jamie’s app, developed by Zolmo Limited, can accomplish. Each recipe has a list of ingredients, which are given in both metric and US measures, and can be added to a shopping list. Whilst shopping each item on the list can be checked off as they’re purchased.

Shopping list functionality
To say the app is slick is a complete understatement. Any doubts that Jamie Oliver’s Twenty Minute Meals was rushed out can be cast out the window. The app is a joy to use and incredibly simple.
The shopping list feature is a great addition and removes a lot of the hassle normally needed to get the ingredients for recipes together. But, obviously, the real stars of the show are the fifty recipes and the photos, which can be viewed by double tapping each instruction.

Because of the sheer quantity of videos, images, content and functionality bundled within 20 Minute Meals it is a little slow to download, as the app is a whopping 404 MB. However, the upside of this is that no internet connection is required – ever!
This application will undoubtedly improve your culinary skills and is a masterclass in both iPhone UI design and cooking. The videos are a great way of teaching and even the most novice chef will be up and running if the app is used to its potential.
